For DJ El Ray, attachment to any material item is strictly prohibited. One time his laptop got stolen. As a DJ, you can imagine that this was a very sad day in his life. He eventually recovered though and came back harder than ever.  El Ray was born in Oakland and raised all over Los Angeles. He's still there now.. and he's murdering the scene. 

 

Although sometimes people don't know why they are put here on this Earth, El Ray does. "I was put here to make people dance," he says. As a teenager he started DJing on his knees in his basement on a really cheap system. His dad was a DJ, but he's not really sure if that has anything to do with anything. He used to listen to Lou Bega and Pac, but that might not be relevant either.

The list of clubs he's christened in the Hollywood scene is to the floor. Weddings, Mitzvahs, BBQ's, Festivals, you name it he's probably done it. Oh yeah and every 3rd Tuesday you can catch him alongside rapper 'Verbs' at 'Banana's' in Leimert park - part of the legendary Koas Network.

 

Together with Danny Shyman, El Ray formed Blue Moss, one of the best DJ and producer duos in the game. As for the name, El Ray says it's an actual color. Like a mossy blue. Shyman and himself came up with it by ingeniously combining their favorite hues. The two met at his first gig of the year on Jan. 3rd at an Irish pub in downtown LA.  "It happened because we were both wanting to be on that path of greatness. The stars have a way of putting those types of people together."
