PETERDEWITT
ARTISTDEVELOPMENT

When he dances, Peter Dewitt is not afraid to do moves that no one has ever seen. The son of Christian missionaries, he grew up in Mexico City as a fish out of water. Or maybe like a bird in water. It was a confusing time. Basically he found himself being raised in a very-upper-class minority at his school while experiencing the realities of living simultaneously in a 3rd world. And even though he felt like an outsider at times, he was surrounded by missionary families who were building bridges between foreigners and natives. So you see, a sense of community that transcends personal differences is something that is built into the framework of the man named Peter Dewitt.
When he moved to Nashville at 14, Dewitt was like - "Okay, this isn't like Mexico." He tried to fit in with the other kids and play sports or whatever, but he just didn't feel like he fit into one particular group of peers. He quickly turned to music as refuge. He formed a totally normal obsession with Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. There was an old stop-light hanging in his closet that flashed red, yellow, and green. Dewitt sat in there a lot. It was around this time that he began to seriously contemplate what the hell he was going to do to make the world more dope.
Still fascinated by the ideas of transcending, relating, and belonging, in his 20's Dewitt spent 7 years living within a spiritual intentional community. Lead by spiritual teacher Louix Dor Dempriey, Dewitt learned how to process and heal the wounds from his past, as well as how to live, work, and collaborate with others in a collective effort. And then there was music. Lots of music. He studied Beethoven intensely and switched his focus to the piano and classical composition. In college, he studied composition, orchestration, voice, and of course, classical piano.
If you remember only one thing from all this, let it be that Peter Dewitt is a spicy man. He is an excellent and mature communicator who is also extremely in touch with his inner child. He is a deep thinker and an even deeper feeler. He has a hunger for life and tries to suck every last drop out of any experience. He is an orange light blazing his way through life, not letting anyone or anything stop him from pursuing whatever it is he has decided he wants to do. At Salt Lamp City Collective, his duties include mopping the floors on Mondays and to remind Danny to do things. He waters the plants and he keeps the focus focussed. Volunteer activities include killing raccoons.
